Nurse recruitment Drupal site and campaign

  • Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust

About the Project

We delivered the perioperative nurse recruitment site for Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Trust and the results have been everything we hoped for.  Following the launch at the end of November, we have:

  • Recruited the first Nurse after just 2 weeks (prior to any campaign activity).
  • Received daily applications following the campaign launch.
  • Received over 600 daily sessions on the site despite the relatively small target audience
  • Acquired over 85% of traffic as a result of a Facebook campaign.

The website was conceived, designed, developed in Drupal, tested and launched on our Acquia Cloud Enterprise environment in 7 weeks.

The challenge

Recruitment of skilled nurses is one of the most difficult and critical issues facing the NHS today.  For individual hospitals and trusts, the challenges include:

  • Attracting the target audience in an extremely competitive marketplace where national competitors are vying for attention.
  • Selling the unique benefits of the Trust and its hospitals by identifying the things that might appeal to our audience.
  • Ensuring high-quality candidates to ensure the process is not just effective but also efficient.

Our approach

Given the challenges, it was important to present an integrated and holistic approach.  In partnership with Bates JPW (with whom we won the original pitch), integration was always at the heart of the project.

Bates JPW delivered an email, Facebook and banner campaign kicking off over the Christmas period and continuing until the end of February 2016.   And as always, Walden O’Neill took a user experience (UX) led approach while liaising closely with the client at all stages.

The project required a rapid turnaround so we used paper sketches to quickly define and iterate the initial UX.  We then quickly moved into design and were lucky to have a great group of clients to collaborate with throughout this process.

The site was built in Drupal, hosted on our Acquia Cloud Enterprise environment and configured with future enhancements in mind.  We now have the ability to adapt the perioperative nursing site for other job roles meaning we can provide an even faster, more cost effective response to future and ongoing recruitment needs.
